In larger apartments, and even more often when there are multiple bathrooms, the kitchen is located further away.

The rent for this specific apartment is the result of a combination of outstanding features such as location (Financial district), size (over a 1000 sq ft), floor (43rd floor!) and the views you get over downtown skyline and the East River, as well as the building amenities (pool, gym etc). :)

On the other hand, you must have had a wonderful time listening to all those great French singers, musicians and writers. You were extremely lucky to see Juliette Gréco! A lot of French people of that generation would have loved to have the opportunity to see her live.
